Modify Your Accent!

Christine Adaire working with a voice student

Do people have trouble understanding you when you speak on the phone or do presentations at work? When English is not your native language, it can be hard to figure out why you sound different from native speakers. It is usually a matter of learning to put your mouth and tongue in slightly different positions, and then practicing until you can make the new sounds easily.

I am an expert in coaching actors when they need to have a specific accent for a role in a play, and so I have studied the sounds of many different languages. I have extensive experience in listening to people’s voices and figuring out what they need to do to change the way they sound. I can use these same techniques to help you sound more like a native English speaker.

I can work with individuals, couples, or small groups. I will work with you to identify the sounds that are hard for you, and then I will develop exercises that are personalized to your needs. If you need to give a presentation at work, I can help you prepare so that you will feel more at ease in front of a group.
